Meet Ashley Nerhus
BIO Girls Volunteer in Goodridge, MN
BIO Girls has become a powerful force for good in communities, and for Ashley Nerhus, it’s a cause that has resonated deeply. As a volunteer for the past five years, Ashley has seen firsthand how the program impacts young girls, guiding them toward self-confidence, healthy habits, and meaningful connections.
After five years of service, she reflects on her time with the program, she expresses deep gratitude for the decision to get involved in such a life-changing initiative.
"I volunteer with BIO Girls because I deeply believe in the mission of BIO Girls and love that the program incorporates non-competitive physical activity, meaningful weekly topics and service to others.”
Ashley’s journey with BIO Girls began when she learned about the program through her niece, who was participating in another community.
“When I first learned about the program in another community that my niece was participating in, I thought to myself I HAVE to bring this to my community. It's such a fun, positive experience for both the youth involved and the mentors!”
Favorite Mantra?
“I like the mantra Attitude of Gratitude because it's a good reminder to look for the all the blessings in our lives.”
One of the most rewarding parts of volunteering, for Ashley, is witnessing the personal growth of the girls in the program.
“There is one participant who has been in our program for a number of years, I feel like I've really seen her apply the lessons in her life and she is now so comfortable in herself and I love the confidence she now has.”
