BIO Girls Expands Programming to Reach Teens
BIO Girls has provided self-esteem and mental wellness programming for girls ages 7 – 12 for the past 10 years. Through this proven programming, thousands of girls have improved their self-esteem, built confidence and learned skills to navigate through difficult social situations.
We are proud of the work we have done, but recognize that the issues do not stop at age 12.
Teen girls are suffering.
53% of middle school and 58% of high school girls in North Dakota report currently trying to lose weight.
1 in 3 teen girls state that their mental health is not good, and nearly 50% feel sad or hopeless almost every day.
45% of middle school and 17% of high school girls are bullied at school, while 39% of middle school and 17% of high school are electronically bullied.
More than half of teen girls feel pressure to be “perfect,” and 75% of girls worry about failing.
Body image, mental health, relationships, and self-confidence. This is where teens struggle, and this is where BIO Girls comes in. As teens navigate these personal and social difficulties, a relationship with God can be a source of strength and peace. That’s also where BIO Girls comes in.
The BIO Girls Teen Program
There are 5 modules of the BIO Girls Teen Program: Body Image, Mental Health, Relationships, Self-Confidence, and Faith and Teens. Modules occur as 5-session programs, with the exception of Faith & Teens, which is offered as 3 separate retreats.
All modules include interactive lessons, mindfulness activities like yoga and meditation, small group projects, discussion, art, and the creation of personal vision boards. Participants use self-reflection, critical thinking, hands-on learning, skill building, and skill application throughout the modules.
In the Body Image module, participants discuss appearance ideals, pressures, media, body diversity, and body acceptance. Topics for the Mental Health module include emotions, anxiety, stress, feelings of worthlessness, and self-compassion.
In the Relationships module, participants talk about the self and feelings of loneliness, changing family relationships, friends and drama, dating, and navigating social media.
Topics for the Self-Confidence module include risk-taking and being brave, fear of failure, perfectionism, and standing up for self.
The Faith and Teens retreats include,
