We are very excited to announce that BIO Girls is the recipient of the Choice Bank Arts Partnership Grant! This grant will help us incorporate the arts into our mission-driven work to benefit the underserved populations in the Fargo-Moorhead community by increasing the self-esteem of adolescent girls.

With this grant, we will pilot an arts-centric program: BIO Girls Create. This pilot will use our same proven 12-session program with life-skills lessons and mentoring, but will incorporate arts-centric activities instead of our non-competitive physical activities such as running, yoga, or cross-training.

Why BIO Girls Create?

Art has some of the same benefits that physical activity does for handling emotions. Art can provide stress relief, reduce anxiety and also be a positive form of self-expression. Similar to physical activity, it is also a mechanism for presence.

What will participants do?

Participants will learn the art of drawing and painting. Past BIO Girls mentor and artist, Hannah Stelter, created the curriculum for the arts-centric portion of the session. Girls choose 3 pieces to showcase at the season finale, as well as do a live demonstration.

When and where will this pilot happen?

This pilot will take place in Fargo, ND – stay tuned for the 2022 season!

We are so grateful!
