Meet Leighton Fitch
BIO Girls Volunteer in Kindred, ND
This dedicated volunteer has given over five years to the BIO Girls mission. With her first season at our Olivet Lutheran Church site and now four seasons in Kindred, ND, Leighton is all-in on the mission of increasing self-esteem in adolescent girls.
“I volunteer with BIO Girls because I want to help create a safe space for these young girls to truly be themselves and show them that staying true to who you are, no matter what life throws at you, is the most beautiful thing you can do. You are uniquely YOU and that is very special.”
When it comes to her favorite lessons, it’s an easy choice - the ones that deal with failure and self-doubt. In Leighton’s perspective, the word failure can have such a negative ring to it, but in reality it’s so important for these girls to know (and us adults to remember) that failure is good!
“No one gets everything right on the first try and in order to grow we all need to fail. Having the courage to try something new and push yourself out of that comfort zone is just as important as whatever the outcome may be.”
After years of service, a big highlight throughout the 12-weeks for Leighton is the service project week. She loves seeing the girls light up with different activities they’ve worked hard to complete. She loves seeing how excited the girls are to be giving back and spreading kindness into their community. “It really brings a lot of joy to your heart.”
We couldn’t be more grateful for Leighton and the time, passion and heart she’s given to our mission and the countless girls she’s served over the years.
