Janelle has been serving her time as a BIO Girls volunteer for the past five years! Not only has Janelle sported two volunteer hats throughout the years, Site Director and now, Mentor, she’s also served two different communities: Abercrombie-Colfax and Wahpeton. Talk about double the impact!!
Janelle– we are so grateful for you and the love you pour into each BIO Girl you encounter! Thank you, thank you, thank you for leaving a lasting impact in the lives of these young participants.
We asked Janelle a few questions about her experience. Learn more below!
Why do you love volunteering for BIO Girls?
I believe in the mission of improving the self-esteem of adolescent girls. It is preventative. It is relevant. It is timeless. And it is spiritually fulfilling.
Do you have a favorite lesson or mantra?
In my coaching career and in raising our daughter, I draw from all the BIO lessons and mantras. Similar to how Bible verses pop up in a feeling of divine intervention, the same is true with our BIO lessons. Perfectly Imperfect is my current favorite.
Do you have an impactful story to share from your volunteer experience?
Coaching high school sports has further reach, and a deeper connection with athletes, because of my mentorship experience with BIO Girls. The athletes became my family. Their worth is not tied to performance. Each are created with unique gifts and talents that enrich my life. BIO Girls taught me the value of mantras. Our 2023 Cross Country team mantra is "pursue greatness"....in sport, in relationships, in academics, in how we treat ourselves and how we treat people we don't even know. My runners put me in awe as they live this mantra every day.
Janelle is truly living out the values of BIO Girls and sharing them with each and every person she encounters. Talk about a light in this world!!
