Volunteering Since: 2020

Meet Jamie Mahaffey!
Jamie is our Site Director at our BIO Girls site in Bemidji, MN. Jamie transitioned from a running to cross-training site in 2022 after seeing a new demographic needing BIO Girls in her community. She is bold and willing to go the extra mile for her BIO Girls. She is selfless and determined to serve in whatever way she is needed. We are so grateful for all she does for the BIO Girls mission.
“Jamie was thrown into the Site Director role when the original Site Director had to move to a new town. Jamie has been great to work with and has worked hard in all things BIO Girls, even taking on a new program type in 2022, cross-training, to give the community different options and a great program!”
— Angie Will, BIO Girls Programming Team
We asked Jamie a few questions about her involvement with BIO Girls:
What do you do for work?
“I am a Senior Employee at Affinity Plus FCU, I assist employees of the credit union in setting and achieving financial goals.”
Do you have any hidden talents?
“If organization is considered a talent?”
What is your favorite book?
“The Gift of Imperfection by Brené Brown.”
What do you think girls would be missing without BIO Girls?
“I believe BIO Girls front-loads tough situations young girls face today. Without BIO Girls I think we’d be missing a huge opportunity to meet them where they’re at now or where they will be in the future as they enter middle school and high school.”
Do you have a vivid memory or story that stands out to you from your time volunteering?
“At the end of our 2021 season, we hosted our 5K…The girls lined up at the starting line with their parents holding signs all around the track cheering them on. As we got to the last few to cross the finish line one little girl was determined to finish even though she was so tired. She had one more lap to go and refused to quit. All the rest of the girls stood up and ran the last lap with her. It was so beautiful to watch.”
What is one piece of advice you would tell your younger self?
“It’s okay to ask for help and to be your own hero.”
Jamie —
The BIO Girls team, the participants you have made an impact on, and the Bemidji community sincerely thank you.
