Meet Cassandra Sundvall!

Cassandra is our Site Director at our BIO Girls site in Moorhead, MN at Good Shepherd. Cassandra is a barrier-breaker, selfless leader, and bold risk-taker. She has had her hand in several site locations finding her home at Good Shepherd. Her innovation and passion for this program wash over every person she meets. We are so grateful for all she does for the BIO Girls mission.

“Cassandra is organized and a great communicator. She asks great questions to ensure her BIO Girls program operates at a high BIO Girls standard. We are so grateful for all of the work that she does.”

— Anna Marohl, BIO Girls Programming Team

We asked Cassandra a few questions about her involvement with BIO Girls:

What do you do for work?

“I am an Office Coordinator.”

Do you have a vivid memory or story that stands out to you from your time volunteering?

“We had one BIO Girl that was terrified to participate in the 5K. Each session we walked together during our energizing workout where she expressed her frustrations, fears, and statements of “I can’t.” Each week we would play little games where we would take little steps towards running to the stop sign, running to that tree, etc. When race day came where family, friends, and BIO Girls supporters were lined up along the route - she was nervous, but fueled by their energy and support! Her determination to cross the finish line was ALL HERS! At that moment you could see was her conquering all her previous fears and self-doubts!”

Name one-way BIO Girls has impacted you personally?

“It allowed me to step out of my comfort zone. I am a true introvert at heart and it’s something I always viewed as a weakness. But BIO Girls has really opened that up and given me confidence when you know what this program is doing and the impact it has.”

What is your favorite movie?

Just Like Heaven

What drew you to become involved with BIO Girls?

“The light it brought to my daughter’s eyes. Knowing this program could make such a profound impact on not just my daughter, but thousands of young girls in each and every community within its reach - was the driving factor for me!”

What do you think girls would be missing without BIO Girls?
”A safe space to have real vulnerable discussions that are imperative to navigating through the most impressionable years and understanding that they are not alone. Other girls their age may also be experiencing the same situations. BIO Girls provides that community of peer support and encouragement that enhances self-confidence in one another!”

What is one piece of advice you would tell your younger self?

“Participate. Have more understanding for others and be selfless. When we are young we don’t always understand the impact of our words and actions.”

Cassandra —

The BIO Girls team, the participants you have made an impact on, and the Moorhead, MN - Good Shepherd community sincerely thank you.
