meeT Carrie Herrig!

BIO Girls Volunteer in Thompson, ND

With five years of dedicated service, we can’t say enough about this positive change-maker in Thompson, ND!

While BIO Girls started as a opportunity for her eldest daughter to explore her running interest, it proved to be so much more.

Thinking back, Carrie recalls wanting to say no to mentoring her first year. Thankfully, she did it anyways and is so glad she did.

“I’ve been hooked on BIO Girls since the start! Every year, I get the privilege to watch these amazing girls form bonds over shared experiences, working through hard situations, strengthening their faith, and growing their inner and outer confidence. It’s truly a gift and a blessing to be apart of it.”

When asked about her favorite lesson, it’s an easy answer - Kindness is Contagious. This lesson teaches the girls about the impact our words and actions have on others but the importance of being kind to ourselves too. She believes the way we speak and act about ourselves matters just as much.

Carrie has been fortunate to share in this special experience with her two daughters. In addition to her own family, she’s been a witness to the positive effects of BIO Girls throughout her community.

“It has helped them form a stronger sense of self and allowed them to grow in their faith, their friendships, and how they view the world. But, more then that the way I see them and other participants in the program using what they learned beyond the program. I have seen them demonstrate our mantras on the playground, softball field, basketball court, and beyond. Seeing mentors and mentees interact beyond our program is pretty special too. I love the hugs, conversations, and friendships formed between them. It’s really a powerful thing.”

For Carrie, five years has blown by in a blink of an eye. She would’ve never expected how much BIO Girls would mean to her.

“It not only changes the girls who participate but also those who choose to give their time to it. I have grown in my self-confidence, faith, and found a passion for running too.”

Carrie, we cannot say thank you enough! We are so, so grateful for your time, talents and dedication to our program and the girls we serve.
