Afraid of change? Heck no!

BIO Girls has had to rethink and retool many details of our programming this year thanks to the virus that is impacting us all. While many things have been frustrating and challenging, we are pumped for some changes coming to our curriculum. The four topic pillars that have defined our program for the past 9 years haven’t changed –

  • Healthy Relationships

  • Kindness

  • Mental Health

  • Leadership

However, HOW we deliver the content has an exciting twist....

MEET FAITH!

Faith is the name of the angel girl seen in our logo. In 2021, Faith is coming to life as an animated character in videos that will be shared throughout the 12-week sessions. The lessons are built around Faith’s experiences in school, with friends, with her family and her two cats – Bird and Mouse.  We believe Faith will be relatable and a fun, new way to help build confidence, courage and self-esteem in our participants… and a great mindset for 2021.

This change is a risk and took a huge effort to pull off. The easy thing would have been to do nothing. But we teach all BIO Girls healthy risks often result in growth. In fact, that’s what the first lesson in our 2021 curriculum is all about.

Girls are less likely than boys to take a risk.

They are stifled by the what-ifs and paralyzed into inaction. This inaction is a threat to girls’ confidence. This first lesson is used to commend the participants for taking the risk to join BIO Girls and teach a technique to overcome doubt and fear to change the inner dialogue that stifles so many of us – that voice in our heads that says ‘don’t do it’ or ‘you can’t’.

Taking the risk to modify our curriculum was accelerated due to the pandemic, but we believe the result will be more consistency across all BIO Girls locations while making the volunteer duties for leaders less taxing. The benefits have truly outweighed the risks across the board.

While 2020 has been challenging and anxiety-ridden, at BIO Girls we have Faith. Faith that the changes we have made will continue to produce the intended outcome, Faith to help participants grow in many ways, and Faith that God will guide us through 2021 and help us continue our important mission.

So, meet Faith. A character brought to life, a mindset going forward and a hope for good things in the future.

Cheers to having Faith in 2021.
