Have you ever tried to put toothpaste back in the tube? It’s a very messy process and virtually impossible. The same can be said about the words that come from our mouths.

Our words are powerful. Our words can:

  • Create change

  • Build others up

  • Inflict pain

  • Make someone’s day

  • Be life-changing

Our words are powerful and a reflection of our hearts. Like toothpaste, when words have been said, trying to take them back is messy and virtually impossible.

Social media has created a new channel for voicing opinions and amplifying voices. There are many positives to social media. In fact, we experience the power of social media first-hand at BIO Girls. Our mission impact and growth has been completely organic and can be attributed largely to Facebook. Unfortunately, sitting behind a computer screen makes it ‘easier’ to degrade, bully and use our voices as weapons on a much larger scale.

The BIO Girls curriculum is modified each year to ensure it is relevant.

Just a few years ago, most participants in our program did not have a phone and if they did, they were not on social media. Our curriculum touched on internet safety. Today, the reality is most participants have their own phone and are on social media apps like Tik Tok and Instagram.

Our curriculum has adapted to the times by moving from a sole focus on internet safety to a much more comprehensive approach to educating participants on the impact social media has on our lives, both as an editor and a consumer.

BIO Girls is committed to creating kind, respectful leaders by helping participants understand the power of their voices, whether in-person or on the latest app.
